                   Cyprus Important Bird Areas (IBA's)

Adelfoi Forest

The main features of the site are Madari and Papoutsa peaks with an altitude of 1613m and 1554m respectively. There is also Xyliatos dam, over Xyliatos village. The extensive forests of the site and the cliffs near Madari peak are very attractive for a large number of species. The site is one of the most important sites in Cyprus for five Birds Directive Annex 1 species. On the cliffs near Madari peak nests one of the last remaining pairs of Raven in Cyprus .

Problems

The site is generally in good condition, with little interference from human activity in the majority of its extent. However, new developments  seem to be on the increase in the area. Hunting is permitted within the site, but this need not pose a threat provided enforcement of the relevant law is strict and hunting is exercised in a sustainable manner, taking into account the conservation needs of the species for which the site is designated.
