                   Cyprus Important Bird Areas (IBA's)

Agia Thekla - Liopetri

A Linear, ribbon-shaped site consisting of the coastal belt west of Ayia Napa, with the main habitat being rocky shore. A significant number of birds use the rocky shores of the site as a staging, resting and feeding area during both migration and the winter. The site is one of the best in Europe for Greater sand plover. The site is also one of the few areas beyond Kleides Islands breeding colony where the globally threatened Audouin's Gull is observed.

Problems

Development is already evident on the margins of the site and poses a serious threat both in terms of claiming parts of the habitat, and causing increased disturbance by humans.

Priority species:

Greater Sand Plover (Charadrius leschenaultii)

Passage Migrant
