Cyprus Important
Bird Areas (IBA's)
Pafos
Plain
A narrow coastal plain south
of the Limassol to Paphos motorway and bordered by the
Diarizos
River
to the east and the
Ezousas
River
to the west. The site is bisected by the
Xeros
River
and includes the mouths of the three rivers. A key area for migrating
birds, with Red-footed falcon and Bee-eater notable among these. The
plain is also among the most important sites on the
Island
for Stone curlew and an important breeding ground for Black Francolin.
Problems
Intensification
of agriculture in the area could in the future cause problems for birds
using the plain. The presence of the airport also poses a disturbance
risk.
