Sewage Works dropped from c100 on the 2nd to just 6 on the 29th

such a secretive bird there could of course have been a pair present?] and

reported from this site whilst 9 were reported from Vretsia on the 18th. Black

birds at Cape Greco on the 26th with 1 bird at Evretou Dam on

the 18th and the 24th there were up to 9 birds at
Anarita Park, 9 being reported on the 20th. Away from this site
there was just the one report of a single male at Akrotiri Salt Lake on

expected, this species was reported from most sites visited during the
month with records from Achelia Dam, Akamas, Akrotiri Salt Lake, Anarita
Park, Archangelos, Cape Greco [8 on 2nd], Evretou Dam, Kamares,
Kannaviou Dam, Oroklini Marsh, Paphos Lighthouse Area, Pera Orinis,
Strovolos and Xylophagou. Red-footed

Falco vespertinus At
Anarita Park there were up to 8 birds present between the 18th
and the 30th when they were to be seen in the company of the
previously reported Lesser Kestrels. Away from this site there was a male
at Akrotiri Salt Lake on 25th, a male at Curium on 25th,
3 males and 2 females at Kivisili on the 21st and 2 birds at
Kofinou on the same date with 4 birds at Oroklini Marsh on 20th,
2 females at Phasouri Reed Beds on 19th and 6 birds at the
Xeros Potamos Pools on the 20th. Merlin

only sighting this month with 1 bird at Agios Georgios on the 6th. Eleonora’s

report was of 2 at Kensington Cliffs on the 21st and then daily
from this site thereafter with a maximum of 10 on the 25th. Peregrine

or 2 reported from Kensington Cliffs mid-month, 2 reported from the
Vretsia area during the Field Meeting on the 18th and single
birds seen at Evretou Dam on the 18th and at Akrotiri Salt Lake
on the 25th.

Alectoris chukar Reported from most sites across the island, the
highest concentrations were 8 at Amathus in the latter part of the month
and a maximum daily count from Oroklini Marsh of 4 birds. Black

Francolinus francolinus 1 or 2 reported from most of the western sites but
reports also from Athalassa, Liopetri and Oroklini Marsh in the east. Quail
Coturnix coturnix Records from Coral Bay [1-4], Filousa, Nata,
Oroklini Marsh, Paphos Lighthouse Area [1-6], Paphos Sewage Works, Strakka
[3 heard] and Yermasoya Dam. Water

from Xeros Potamos Pools on the 7th and the 10th and
from Oroklini Marsh on the 21st. Little

male was present at the Aspro Dam Pools from the 1st to the 6th
with an amazing 6 birds seen there on the 7th. Also reported
from Xeros Potamos Pools with 1 bird on the 21st and the 22nd
with 3 on the 24th and another amazing count of 7 birds on the

from all wetlands across the island with the highest total being the
Oroklini Marsh maximum daily count of 5 birds. 3 juvs with an adult were
reported from Yermasoya Dam on the 29th. Coot

reported from most wetland across the island, breeding records came from
Athalassa with 3 juvs seen on 18th and then multiple broods on
the 25th. Oroklini Marsh had a maximum daily count of 12 birds. Common

were seen by many birders at Mandria during the 4th to the 16th,
from the 10th being joined by the next species. Demoiselle

Anthropoides virgo A
single adult bird consorted with the previous species during the 10th
to the 16th giving many people not only their first view of
this delightful species but enabling detailed comparisons to be made with
the Common variety. Black-winged

and widespread at most wetland-sites all month the higher numbers being 22
at Evretou Dam on the 1st, a maximum daily count of 40 at
Oroklini Marsh with 12 pairs taking up residence, c50 at Spiro's Pool with
many pairs nesting and 18 being present at the Xeros Potamos Pools on the
6th. Nesting was also observed at Phasouri Reed Beds with at
least 2 pairs incubating. Stone

and pools drying out towards the end of the month when only 1 was present

seen at Paphos Lighthouse Area on the 25th and 1 was at the
Nata Ford on the 27th. This was a good month for this species
