Records for July 2004 [The
following list contains records that have not been corrected or

Tachybaptus ruficollis Number
of birds at the Larnaca Sewage Works built up from 1 on the 2nd,
3 on the 19th, 30 on the 21st to 32 on the 29th.
Elsewhere there was 1 at the Aspro Dam Pools on the 31st and 27
at Phasouri Reed Beds on the 11th. Shag

only report was of 4 birds at Mandria on the 3rd. Night

were 6 or 7 all month at Akhna Dam, 6 at Phasouri Reed Beds on the 11th
and 4 at Kiti Dam on the 29th. Squacco

There
were single birds reported from Akhna Dam on the 1st and 4th
and from Phasouri Reed Beds on the 11th. Cattle

one report of 9 birds seen at Akhna Dam on the 16th. Grey

were 3 reported from Kiti Dam on the 4th but the number
increased to 15 between the 15th and the 28th. There

Asprokremmos Dam on the 31st.

was 1 present at Kiti Dam from the 25th until the 30th.

birds seen at Archimandrita on the 7th and a juv at Kensington

was the Oroklini Marsh maximum daily count plus 1 was reported from Vrecha

single bird, most likely a juv, was seen flying in the Tsadha Valley on
the 30th and another juv was seen at Aspro Dam Pools on the 31st. Eleonora’s

the 11th and 3 at Asprokremmos Dam on the 31st. Peregrine

only report was of 2 birds seen on the Karpas on the 27th.

Oroklini Marsh maximum daily count was 25 birds, 65, including a pair with
12 juvs, at Armou on 13th, 54 at Ayia Varvara on 20th,
23 at Asprokremmos Dam on the 24th and finally 52, which
included 3 family parties of 12 juvs each, at the Tsadha Valley on the 30th. Black

Francolinus francolinus There
was a maximum daily count at Oroklini Marsh of 6 birds, 1 heard at
Phasouri Reed Beds on 11th, 2 females at the Achelia Dam on the
16th and a pair on the Karpas on the 27th. Moorhen

Oroklini Marsh maximum daily count was 4, 25 at Phasouri Reed Beds on 11th,
6 at Achelia Dam on 16th and 1 at the repaired Aspro Dam Pools
on the 31st. Coot

birds seen on a few days during the month at Oroklini Marsh, 35 at
Phasouri Reed Beds on the 11th with 90 at Larnaca Sewage Works
on the 21st but only 30 reported from this site on the 29th. Black-winged

was a maximum daily count of 50 from Oroklini Marsh, 23 at Larnaca Sewage
Works on 5th, 56 there on 15th and 30 on the 29th
with 11 at Phasouri Reed Beds on the 11th and 3 at Akhna Dam on

bird seen at Xeros Potamos on the 16th and the 31st. Little

at Akhna Dam on the 7th with 9 there on 26th, an
adult with a juv at Asprokremmos Dam on the 17th, 2 at the
Aspro Dam Pools on the 24th with just 1 there on the 31st
and up to 3 at Oroklini Marsh between the 9th and the 20th. Ringed

were 2 birds at Akhna Dam between the 14th and the 21st. Kentish

at Larnaca Salt Lake on 13th, 3 at Akhna Dam on 20th
and 42 at Larnaca Sewage Works on 23rd, 60 there on the 27th

was the maximum daily count at Oroklini Marsh with day-old chicks observed
on the 4th and the 30th, 15 at Akhna Dam on the 15th
and 12 at Kiti Dam on the 18th.

12 at Larnaca Sewage Works on the 21st with 40 there on the 28th

at Oroklini Marsh on the 1st and the 8th but with 2

from 1 at Oroklini Marsh on the 30th the species was only seen
at Larnaca Sewage Works with 3 on 2nd, 5 on 21st, 2
on 28th and 14 on 29th. Marsh

passage birds were 4 at Akhna Dam on 21st and 2 at Larnaca
Sewage Works on 23rd. Greenshank

one sighting of a single bird at Larnaca Sewage Works on the 21st. Green

an early passage bird the reports are singles at Oroklini Marsh on 1st
and 24th, Akhna Dam on 9th and 15th,
Achelia Dam on 16th, Kiti Dam on 18th and the
Asprokremmos Dam on the 31st with 7 at Akhna Dam on 20th,
2 on 24th, 3 on 26th, 4 on 28th and 3 on
30th plus 8 at Asprokremmos Dam on 24th, 11 at Aspro
Dam Pools on 24th and 6 there on the 29th. Wood

at Oroklini Marsh on 9th, Akhna Dam on 15th, 20th,
24th and Larnaca Sewage Works on 29th, 7 at Kiti Dam
on 5th, 2 at Phasouri Reed Beds on 11th, 2 at Akhna
Dam on 26th and 12 there on the 28th. Common

Actitis hypoleucos 4
was the maximum daily count at Oroklini Marsh with the only other report
being 1 at Larnaca Sewage Works on the 29th. Black-headed

seen at Larnaca Sewage Works on both the 21st and the 29th.

at the Larnaca Sewage Works on both the 21st and the 23rd. Audouin’s

adult seen at the Karpas on the 27th. Yellow-legged

were 30 reported from Larnaca Sewage Works on the 21st. Common
Tern Sterna hirundo There
were 6 seen at Oroklini Marsh on the 28th but just 1 on the 29th
plus there was an adult and a juv seen at Larnaca Sewage Works on the 29th.
I have it under good authority that this species successfully bred at
Larnaca Sewage Works again this year. Unfortunately I am lacking any
definitive details. If you know of any would you kindly pass them along to

from only Larnaca Sewage Works with 6 from 1st to 23rd
and 1 on 25th. Again, I have heard that this species too bred
successfully at Larnaca Sewage Works this year. If you have any details

and 26th with 4 on 28th and 29th and 1 at

in the Tsadha Valley on 30th, 3 in Tsadha - Stroumbi Valley on
2nd with 4 there on 7th, 1 at Tseri on 26th
and finally 2 at Yioulou on the 18th. Hoopoe

or 2 at Akhna Dam between the 4th and the 20th, 2 at
Vrecha on 18th and singles at Ezousa on 20th,
Kannaviou Dam on 27th and at Lythrodhonda all month. Crested
