Bishop's Pool: four 4-Nov and six 23-Nov. Fresh Water Lake (South): 36 on both 10-Nov and 22-Nov decreasing to 16 30-Nov. Kannaviou Dam: 16 3-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: Numbers fairly constant all month with 116 on 2-Nov and 134 on 17-Nov. Oroklini Marsh: two 2-Nov otherwise one present all month. Paphos Sewage Plant: one 25-Nov. Piania Dam, Acheleia: two 27-Nov. Polemidhia Dam: six 12-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: three counts received with a max. of 12 1-Nov.

Asprokremmos Dam: two 25-Nov and 27-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: one 18-Nov, Polemidia Dam: one 2-Nov.  

Slavonian Grebe Podiceps auritus  

Polemidia Dam: one reported on 2-Nov awaits assessment. If accepted this will be the third record for Cyprus and the first since 1958.

Larnaca Sewage Works: two reported 2-Nov - 4-Nov with only one remaining 18-Nov and 29-Nov.

Armou Hills: 10 flying at high altitude 7-Nov. Asprokremmos Dam: three 18-Nov. Bishop's Pool: 25 on 23-Nov. Fresh Water Lake (South): two 22-Nov. Kato Paphos: c33 overhead at dusk 8-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: Numbers increased from one 2-Nov to 39 on 18-Nov. Paphos Headland: five 28-Nov. Polemidhia Dam: two 2-Nov and six 12-Nov.

Dhekeleia Power Station: nine 7-Nov, five 12-Nov and three 18-Nov. Lady's Mile: two 23-Nov. Palm Beach , Famagusta : three 3-Nov. Paphos Headland: two 2-Nov. Spiros Beach buoys: up to seven all month.

Akhna Dam: one 13-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: one 16-Nov, four 17-Nov and 18-Nov. Polemidhia Dam area: three juveniles 2-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: three adults flew in from the north 4-Nov.

Athalassa Park : one 26-Nov. Fresh Water Lake (South): two (adult and first-winter) 10-Nov and 14-Nov and one (first-winter) 22-Nov. 

Cattle Egret Bubulcus ibis  

Akaki area: one flying beside road 24-Nov. Akhna Dam: eight 6-Nov were almost certainly members of the Fresh Water Lake (South) colony. Famagusta Tip: c50 on 4-Nov. Fresh Water Lake (South): Numbers at the roost declined during the month with 173 on 10-Nov, 98 22-Nov and 86 30-Nov. Oroklini Marsh: seven 25-Nov. Paphos Sewage Plant: two 17-Nov, six 20-Nov, two 21-Nov and three 25-Nov. Phasouri Reed-beds: one 4-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: one 23-Nov.

Akhna Dam: present all month with a max. of seven 2-Nov. Asprokremmos Dam: one 18-Nov. Bishop's Pool: 62 4-Nov and six 23-Nov. Evretou Dam: one 14-Nov. Fresh Water Lake (South): three 10-Nov and singles 22-Nov and 30-Nov. Kannaviou Dam: one 3-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: present all month with a max. of eight on 6-Nov. Oroklini Marsh: singles 6-Nov and 23-Nov - 25-Nov. Larnaca Salt Lake : one 6-Nov and 13-Nov. Piania Dam, Acheleia: one 27-Nov. Polemidhia Dam: one 12-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: the max. count was 72 on 4-Nov.  

Black Stork Ciconia nigra  

Oroklini Marsh: one 28-Nov.  

Spoonbill Platalea leucorodia  

Larnaca Sewage Works: one 6-Nov.  

Greater Flamingo Phoenicopterus ruber  

Larnaca Airport Pools (North): c70 30-Nov. Larnaca Salt Lake : No accurate counts received but estimates indicate that between 200 and 300 birds were present all month. Larnaca Sewage Works: 144 2-Nov and 293 17-Nov. Meneou Pools: 64 on 25-Nov. There is obviously a lot of movement between the Sewage Works, the Salt Lake , the Airport Pools and Meneou Pools; this must be borne in mind when calculating the number of birds present in the Larnaca area at any one time. Oroklini Marsh: present from 10-Nov to month's-end with a max. of nine on 28-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: two juveniles 1-Nov - 6-Nov with three present 12-Nov.  

White-fronted Goose Anser albifrons  

Asprokremmos Dam: two flying high in an easterly direction 28-Nov. Fresh Water Lake (South): A juvenile was present on four visits between 10-Nov and 30-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: A flock of 18 was first reported on 27-Nov.

Larnaca Sewage Works: three 17-Nov and c5 29-Nov.

Fresh Water Lake (South): two 10-Nov and 22-Nov with one remaining 30-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: the max. count was of four 17-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: four 1-Nov and 4-Nov and one 12-Nov.

Fresh Water Lake (South): two 10-Nov and 22-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: one 17-Nov and two 25-Nov.

Fresh Water Lake (South): 266 10-Nov, 368 22-Nov and 233 30-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: 196 2-Nov 176 17-Nov and c200 18-Nov. Oroklini Marsh: two 24-Nov and four 30-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: 24 1-Nov, 25 4-Nov, 16 12-Nov and c12 23-Nov.

Akhna Dam: eight 24-Nov. Asprokremmos Dam: five 18-Nov. Bishop's Pool: four 23-Nov. Evretou Dam: 34 on 14-Nov. Fresh Water Lake (South): 21 on 10-Nov decreasing to six 22-Nov and five 30-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: 161 2-Nov, 165 17-Nov and c200 18-Nov. Oroklini Marsh: present all month with a max. count of seven on 6-Nov and 22-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: 10 1-Nov, four 4-Nov and c10 23-Nov.  

Pintail Anas acuta  

Fresh Water Lake (South): six 10-Nov and two 22-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: 12 2-Nov, 15 4-Nov and 11 17-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: seven 4-Nov, six 12-Nov and c20 on 23-Nov.  

Garganey Anas querquedula  

A few late migrants remained with two Bishop's Pool 4-Nov, and one Larnaca Sewage Works 2-Nov and 3-Nov.  

Shoveler Anas clypeata  

Agia Napa Sewage Works: two 18-Nov and 15 on 24-Nov. Bishop's Pool: eight 4-Nov and 12 23-Nov. Fresh Water Lake (South): Numbers increased during the month with 11 on 10-Nov, 35 22-Nov and 47 30-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: Numbers remained stable with 545 2-Nov and 551 17-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: one 1-Nov, four 4-Nov and c5 23-Nov.  

Pochard Aythya farina  

Larnaca Sewage Works: 16 2-Nov, 11 4-Nov, three 17-Nov and two 29-Nov.  

Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca  

Larnaca Sewage Works: unprecedented numbers were recorded at this site during October and into November with 14 2-Nov, 18 4-Nov, 18 25-Nov and 34 29-Nov. The drying-out of Phasouri Reed-beds may have meant that birds from that site moved east to Larnaca although, as far as habitat goes, Zakaki Marsh would seem to be a more attractive proposition. Zakaki Marsh: three 4-Nov.

Larnaca Sewage Works: male and female 29-Nov.  

White-headed Duck Oxyura leucocephala  

Larnaca Sewage Works: two from 28-Nov. This is the first record since 2004.  

Griffon Vulture Gyps fulvus   

Anogyra: four 30-Nov. Cape Kiti : a wandering juvenile was seen on a villa rooftop!! 4-Nov and was tracked around the Larnaca district for the next 10 days. It ended up at Alethrico village before eventually moving west. Kidasi: two 10-Nov. Paramali Tunnel: nine 19-Nov.

Akhna Dam: one 2-Nov. Bishop's Pool: one 4-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: singletons regularly reported throughout the month. Paphos Sewage Plant: one 20-Nov. Phasouri Reed-beds: two 6-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: two 23-Nov.

Akhna Dam: male 24-Nov. Anarita Park: male 17-Nov. Armou Hills: ringtail 7-Nov and male 15-Nov. Aspro Dam Pools: male 15-Nov. Agios Nikolaos (ESBA): ringtail 29-Nov. Evretou Dam: one 14-Nov. Kidasi: ringtail 10-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: two (male & female) 18-Nov and 25-Nov. Mandria: one 22-Nov. Marathounta area: one 8-Nov. Paphos Sewage Plant: male 13-Nov. Tsada Hills: singles regularly reported between 1-Nov and 21-Nov with two (male and female) present 16-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: ringtail 23-Nov.

Nata/Episkopi road: two reported 23-Nov, were very late.

Agios Nikolaos (ESBA): one 4-Nov and two moving south 25-Nov. Kidasi: four 10-Nov. Letymbou area: two 3-Nov. Paphos Sewage Plant: one 25-Nov. Tsada Hills: two 1-Nov, then single birds regularly reported until month's-end.

Common and widespread; counts of up to five birds received from 20 sites this month.

Aphrodite's Rock area: one 1-Nov. Paphos Airport area: one 1-Nov. Results of a breeding survey which were received too late for inclusion in the November newsletter: Akrotiri-Avdimou: 55 nesting pairs, 51 juveniles 19-Oct. Cape Aspro Cliffs: 10 pairs, 4 juveniles 22-Oct. The C. Aspro figures are thought to be an underestimate.

Widespread. Reported from 15 sites this month including: Agios Nikolaos (ESBA): 48 in coveys of six, 10, eight, 16 and eight 4-Nov. Armou Hills: 27 on 17-Nov. Spiros Pool area 24 on 16-Nov.

Manglis Lake , Lakatameia: singles 23-Nov and 30-Nov. Oroklini Marsh: up to two regularly seen/heard. Paphos Airport area: two on road 11-Nov. Paphos Sewage Plant: one calling 3-Nov and a female 17-Nov. Pyla area: female flushed from lucerne crop 17-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: one calling 4-Nov.

Akhna Dam: one 2-Nov. Fresh Water Lake (South): three 10-Nov and singles 22-Nov and 30-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: one in front of hide 25-Nov. Oroklini Marsh: one present all month. Zakaki Marsh: seven 4-Nov, two 6-Nov, four 12-Nov and two 23-Nov.

Oroklini Marsh: max. daily count of 20 on 29-Nov and 30-Nov. Paphos Sewage Plant: three 29-Sep. Zakaki Marsh: one 6-Nov.

Fresh Water Lake (South): one 10-Nov, 14-Nov and 22-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: one 17-Nov. Oroklini Marsh: regularly recorded throughout the month with maxima of six on 3-Nov and three on 18-Nov and 20-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: one 4-Nov. Acheleia soakaway pits: up to five 25- 27-Nov.

Fresh Water Lake (South): singles 10-Nov, 22-Nov and 30-Nov. Kermia Beach: one 24-Nov. Larnaca Salt Lake : four 15-Nov. Potamos Liopetri coast: four 18-Nov.

Paphos Headland: singles 3-Nov, 14-Nov and 18-Nov with two present 28-Nov.  

Mediterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus  

Lady's Mile: one (possibly two) 23-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: two 4-Nov, one 21-Nov, eight (seven first-winter birds and an adult) 25-Nov and eight (four first-winter birds, one second-winter and three adults) 29-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: two first-winter birds 23-Nov (possibly same as at Lady's Mile).

Fresh Water Lake (South): three 14-Nov and two 30-Nov. Lady's Mile: c200 23-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: 187 2-Nov, 258 4-Nov, 667 17-Nov. Oroklini Marsh: max. of six 12-Nov and 21-Nov. Paphos Sewage Plant: juvenile 16-Nov. Xylofagou area: 10 26-Nov. Zakaki Marsh: 126 1-Nov, 210 4-Nov, c120 12-Nov, 200+ 23-Nov. It should be noted that there is a lot of movement of gulls between Lady's Mile and Zakaki Marsh.

Lady's Mile: one 23-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: a breeding plumaged adult 29-Nov.

Reported from three sites. with single females at Akhna Dam 23-30-Nov, Aspro Dam Canal and Pools 8-15-Nov and Zakaki Marsh all month.

Oroklini Marsh: one 26-Nov.

One in field behind Larnaca Sewage Works 3-Nov and eight at Meneou Pool East 29-Nov.

Loose groups of up to 10 regular, occasionally more, with a max. at Agios Nikolaos (ESBA) of 71 Spread across the SBA in small groups 4-Nov.

Fairly common winter visitor from mid-month. Tsada Hills: one in flight 1-Nov. Akhna Dam: six 30-Nov. Anarita: nine 17-Nov. Armou Hills: up to 19 most visits 7-28-Nov. Aspro Amenity Area: eight 18-Nov, four 22-Nov. Athalassa Park: three 25-Nov. Agia Napa Sewage Works: seven 24-Nov. Agios Nikolaos (ESBA): up to six 4 & 20-Nov. Meletis Forest: six 1-Nov. Souni: two 23-Nov. Stavros Tis Psokas Valley : three 14-Nov.

Common and widespread. Noteworthy reports as follows:  Armou Hills: 28 on 17-Nov. Agios Nikolaos (ESBA): 95 on 29-Nov, 102 In several flocks 4-Nov. Ezousa river mouth: c150 on 10-Nov. Koloni: 30 on 18-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: max. 34 on 17-Nov. Mandria: 285 on 20-Nov. Paphos Headland: c30 on 13-Nov. Paphos Sewage Plant: max. 58 on 3-Nov. Tsada Hills: 23 on 1-Nov.

Reported, sometimes in abundance, particularly around Paphos Airport . Noteworthy reports: Agia Varvara Area: c24 on 5-Nov. Armou Hills: 38 going to roost 19-Nov. Agios Nikolaos (ESBA): 55 on 4-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: 28 on 17-Nov. Paphos Sewage Plant: 98 on 7-Nov, 130+ on 29-Nov, 190+ on 9-Nov, up to 400 from 13-16-Nov.

Agia Varvara: 12 on 9-Nov. Anarita Park: two 27-Nov. Larnaca Sewage Works: 17 on 2-Nov, up to 10 from 16-18-Nov (JS,  et al). Orphani Salt Lake : two 15-Nov. Paphos Sewage Plant: c12 from 3-29-Nov, 100+ very difficult to estimate - all in winter plumage – many calling 16-Nov.
