Spring
Alive

BirdLife
Cyprus
is taking part in BirdLife International’s Spring
Alive project again this year.
We are hoping to encourage adults and children from all over the island to
participate in
Europe
’s biggest spring bird watch. Of course we are sure that you, our
members, will lead by example and be amongst the first to register their
sightings!
Taking part is really easy. The first time that you see Barn Swallows and
Swifts this spring please register your sightings on line at the special
Spring Alive website www.springalive.net
There you can also check the
sightings from other European countries and check the progress of these
spring messengers throughout Europe. Records for both the White Stork and
European Cuckoo are also collected by the project so if you see one of
these less frequent visitors to our island, please enter that sighting as
well. The website will be live from the start of February. If you have
seen either of the birds before that date you should still enter them.
Those who prefer, or who are without access to the internet, can post in
their sightings using one of the forms enclosed with January’s
newsletter to the BirdLife Cyprus office and we will enter your sightings
for you. Or give the form to one of your friends and let them know about
Spring Alive. You can even phone in your sightings on 99059541.
Remember it does not matter if you are not the first to register a
sighting for your area. Spring
Alive is not a race! We need everyone’s first sightings to show the
build up to and arrival of spring.
